Civil and Environmental Engineering is the oldest in the field of engineering to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain various public and private infrastructures essential for human life and welfare.

Founded in 1946, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) in Seoul National University (SNU), originally entitled as the Department of Civil Engineering, has a long academic and professional tradition. Our alumni have devoted their energies to remarkable industrialization and advancement of today’s Korea. Land and maritime development, national policy making, infrastructure construction, as well as related R & D and education can be exemplified among innumerable others. The contribution of our alumni has not limited toournationandsociety,butratherspreadintomanydevelopingandundevelopedcountries.NowtheCEEinSNUisoffering8competitiveprograms:ConstructionManagement,EnvironmentalEngineering,GeotechnicalandGeo-environmentalEngineering,HydraulicEngineering,SpatialInformaticsEngineering,StructuralEngineering,TransportationEngineering,andUrbanDesignandPlanning.

Based on more than half-century traditions, the CEE in SNU has focused on educating adventurous and intelligent engineers, who can lead and solve ever changing infrastructure issues of our national and global society.

Currently, our society confronts various difficult issues on energy saving infrastructure, environment deterioration, global climate change, ever increasing traffic congestion, and rapid change to aged society. The CEE in SNU has recently established our new proactive vision to accommodate the national and social demand to resolve and relieve these issues, and to establish human and environment oriented infrastructures in the future.

The CEE in SNU will do the best to lead the national policy making, industrial development, and R & D in all civil and environmental areas. Furthermore, the CEE promises to cultivate globally competitive engineers, who can lead our civil engineering arena and hence contribute to improving the quality of life and national development as well.
