Urban Design is a sophisticated interdisciplinary field that encompass urban planning, civil and transportation engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, public design, real estate development, humanities, urban policy and other specialties in order to make better human settlement. It concerns with the creation of the three-dimensional physical layout of human settlements and their integral parts. It is an art of not only relating one set of professional concerns to other sets, but also attaining a multitude of ends simultaneously. These ends range from the provision of urban space for various built environment to the soundness of the historical and biological environments. Because of these overlapping tasks, urban designers are required to master the relevant knowledge about those related fields. In this sense, students are encourages to take some courses to related fields. Recently, a research emphasis is placed on site planning, human settlement, urban regeneration, new town and foreign urban development, urban sustainability and resilience, historical and cultural space, waterfront, how to improve urban landscape and to formulate better urban design model.
