Research

Construction management involves planning, design, construction, and maintenance to successfully carry out a construction project.
This is a specialized technology field that pursues comprehensive business management, including cost management, process management, and quality management throughout the entire project life cycle.
Seoul National University's Construction Innovation Lab aims to build a safe, eco-friendly, cutting-edge local community in response to future construction demands that create the essential concept of life based on innovative construction management throughout the construction project life cycle.
More specifically, in addition to traditional construction management research based on communication and collaboration across the life cycle between owners, designers, construction companies, and partners, the Construction Innovation Lab has recently been focusing on the following convergence-based research and development.
- Smart construction and facility maintenance using cutting-edge equipment such as sensors, cameras, and drones
- Construction industry big data analysis and AI/deep learning-based decision making
- Construction business digital twin construction and digital transformation throughout the life cycle
- Construction risk, safety and disaster management
- Diagnosing future changes in the construction industry and pioneering new markets

Seoul National University's Smart Construction Lab is overcoming the limitations of the existing construction industry through the convergence of AI and robotics technology and is leading a new paradigm in smart construction.
We are leading innovation in the future construction industry by conducting convergence research that organically links cutting-edge technologies such as construction-specific physical AI, digital twin-based construction supervision technology, and infrastructure maintenance BIM.
In addition, based on the advancement of unmanned construction and human-robot interface technology, we are expanding our research area beyond terrestrial infrastructure innovation to space construction, and are exploring new possibilities and challenges for the future society.
- Development of physical AI for AI-based construction robotics and construction automation
- Construction-specific AI development
- Development of digital twin-based construction supervision and engineering support technology
- Infrastructure maintenance BIM technology development
- Remote construction of structures and development of human-machine/robot interfaces
