Transportation engineering is a study that explores the technology and engineering principles necessary for planning, design, operation, and management of various transportation facilities to move people and logistics quickly, safely, and efficiently.

Seoul National University's Transportation Engineering Laboratory aims to research future transportation systems that integrate and converge various transportation fields. To this end, it has been researching areas such as transportation management, intelligent transportation systems, transportation network analysis, transportation system design, and transportation safety focusing on urban road transportation networks and inter-regional highways.

Recently, we are conducting research on autonomous cooperative driving, smart cities, smart signals, and MaaS (Mobility as a Service), which are hot issues around the world, and are using management science, econometrics, simulation, machine (deep) learning, and discrete choice theory as research tools.

Courses offered cover a variety of fields, including road engineering, sustainable transportation systems, transportation flow theory, transportation system analysis, and transportation management.

Transportation and logistics systems are one of the essential social infrastructures for carrying out regional and national economic activities. Additionally, the establishment of a safe and convenient transportation and logistics system is closely related to the quality of life of members of society.

The Transportation Planning and Logistics Laboratory conducts various research on building sustainable transportation and logistics systems that ensure safety and convenience.

Courses offered include transportation planning and experimentation, transportation system design, transportation optimization techniques, transportation network theory, and sustainable transportation, and we are actively conducting research on transportation and logistics demand forecasting, system planning and design, optimal location and scale determination, and development of optimal operation techniques.

  • Development of a safety support system for vulnerable pedestrians using video-based deep learning
  • Development and pilot operation of integrated payment technology to support smart mobility services

Transportation systems are an essential element of modern civilization, and they are receiving a lot of social attention due to the large socio-economic ripple effects of their construction and operation.

Meanwhile, with the development of information and communication technology, the ability to observe and analyze complex transportation systems in detail is increasing.

In response to these changes, the Smart Transportation Research Lab researches ways to utilize cutting-edge techniques in planning and operating transportation systems to come up with alternatives that can improve user convenience and system sustainability.

In addition, we seek to improve user mobility and accessibility by discovering new transportation services linked to various fields within the smart city.
