Professor Yong Il Kim received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Urban Engineering from Seoul National University and joined the Department of Urban Engineering as a professor in 1995. He later served in SNU's School of Civil, Urban and Geosystem Engineering and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and is now a professor in the Department of Civil, Urban and Environmental Engineering. He has contributed to research and education in surveying, geodesy, spatial information engineering, and remote sensing and has served professional organizations including the Korean Society of Remote Sensing and the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography.
His research uses remote sensing and spatial information engineering to observe and analyze phenomena in construction, energy, environment, urban systems, defense, and disaster management. He develops quantitative methods using satellite imagery and other geospatial data and increasingly integrates artificial intelligence to analyze large and complex spatial datasets more accurately and efficiently.
